Inclusion

When teaching it is essential that all students are included regardless of disability, race, gender. All students should work together in the classroom to better understand one another. This adds value to all students.

Community

Teaching and learning with the community is important to a well functioning class. Getting involved with collegues and people in the community promotes allys for students to support and help them grow. Also community involvement stregnths students confidennce as they have multiple outlets of support.

Intentional Teaching

Effective intentional teaching keeps students allows teachers to know more about their students. It allows teachers to individulize teaching to assist them in their learning needs.

Technology Teaching Philosphy

The digital divide is a growing epidemic that affects students living in lower SES. Having access to the internet in this day of age is vital for students to research, complete assignments, and even communicate with educators. UNICEF states that two thirds of the world’s school age children don’t have access to the internet. (2020, November 30). When Covid took place in 2020 and schools were closed, students were forced to do learning virtually. This new way of learning caused students to need access to reliable wifi. For students that didn’t have access, they were unable to complete assignments and inevitably were held behind.

The digital divide impacts my field because students who don’t have access to the internet may fall behind or be unable to complete research assignments. The internet provides countless amounts of information that assist in completing English, History, Math, and Science. Without having access students are not providing their best work due to the lack of resources. Unicef, also stated that students who have no internet access lose communication with the world. (2020, November 30).

Three innovative ways to assist students during the digital divide can be creating daily after school programs for students to use wifi, partnering with local libraries, and working within the community to put money aside for neighborhoods to have wifi. The first method is helpful because after school programs daily in a computer lab, with a tutor will give students the assistance to research and ask questions. Also partnering with libraries and carpooling students weekly gives the learners access to computers and books. Lastly, working as a community through fundraising and speaking with politicians can help neighborhoods gain support and afford wifi.

Activity to Engage Students in English

Learning English can seem like a simple task to teach stidents, but it isn't as black and white as it seems. In todays society with pronouns, syntaxes, verbs, and adjectives to name a few, students are struggling. An activity that I believe will assist students is having them come together in pairs , and create their own storybook. This activity would be great for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4rth graders. I would ask that students choosse a person, place, or thing to discuss. I then would ask that they brainstorm and create a story about their choice. This gives them free range to create. However, the goal is to make sure that they are using the correct quotation. If a sentence in their story ends with excitement, I want them to include an explanation mark. If there is a question, I want a question mark in their story. I then would proofreed the story with each pair individually, and work with them on areas that need help. After everything has been proofread, I would have the pairs split the book into two sections, and have the pair present their portion to their peers. This activity allows students to create, while learning at the same time. They also are learning how to add expression to their voices as they speak infront of a group.
